Ingredients

  • 1 cup of butter or another cooking oil of your choice
  • 1 cup (8-10 grams) of ground cannabis

Step #1: Decarb Your Weed

The first part of how to make THC weed butter is preparing your cannabis through decarboxylation. Also known as “decarbing” and “decarb,” this step helps you activate all the THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids in your weed. If you skip this step, your cannabutter will be a flop.

When you smoke pot with a pipe, bong, vape, or another heat source, TCHA is changed into THC by the heat. THC molecules are what causes euphoric effects, so heating your marijuana is a must. Heat is essential in how to smoke a pipe and how to use a pipe for weed. Decarb produces the same reaction. When you’re learning how to make THC butter, don’t forget to decarb.

Some recipes will have you decarb the cannabis by adding it to the hot butter. That can be effective, but you’ll have much better results when you decarb the weed first.

Step #2: Bake It Off

Preheat your oven to 240° F and evenly spread your ground cannabis on a non-stick baking tray. Line your tray with foil or parchment paper to prevent sticking. You should bake your buds for at least 30-40 minutes.

The baking time will vary based on your weed. The older and drier your bud is, the less time it will need to decarb. Try baking cured weed for around 45 minutes. When you’re learning how to make weed butter with high-grade, wet weed, you might need to leave it in the oven for an hour or more.

Some people decarb their weed with the oven at 300° F for around 20 minutes. That can be adequate, but we recommend a low-and-slow approach for the most resounding results.

Take the tray out of the oven every 10 minutes and shake your pot. That helps all the material bake evenly. Finally, remove the tray from the oven and let your pot cool.

Step #3: Grind The Weed

When your cannabis has cooled, use a grinder or scissors to break up the weed. You can also use your hands if you don’t have a grinder available.

Step #4: Heat The Butter

Mix one cup of butter (or your other oil) and one cup of water in a stockpot. Simmer the pot on low heat. The water will help control the oil’s temperature and keep it from scorching. Allow the butter to melt before continuing fully. You’ll need to practice patience to learn how to make cannabutter the right way.

Step #5: Add The Cannabis

Once your butter and water are combined, start adding the cannabis to the top. Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature stays under 200° F. In fact, 150-160° F is the ideal temperature range. Let the mixture simmer for two to three hours while everything melds. Stir every so often to keep it from sticking to the bottom of the pan or burning. When you’re discovering how to make pot butter, remember that the mixture should never boil.

Step #6: Pour Into A Jar

Pour your butter mixture through cheesecloth and a funnel into a clean jar. When you’re learning how to make weed butter, it’s essential to let the butter strain on its own. If you squeeze it through the cheesecloth, you may end up with bad-tasting plant material in your cannabutter.

Step #7: Store In The Fridge

Refrigerate your new jar of cannabutter. If there’s extra water in the bottom of the jar, you can pour it out after your butter has cooled for a few hours.

Enjoy Your Weed Butter

Now that you know how to make THC weed butter, you can explore various fun and practical applications. Try your cannabutter on the snack of your choice, use it in place of regular butter in recipes, or even eat it on its own. The only wrong way to eat cannabutter is by overindulging. If you don’t feel so good after having some weed butter, be sure to contact a medical professional.
